Learning English

The ESL (English as a Second Language) Course is a course designed to give a progressive programme of study in basic English Language skills. Our special purpose is to help speakers of languages other than English to prepare for Christian ministry, but students with different aims are also accepted.

The duration of the course is 40 weeks. Due to the fact that some of the students have children, the ESL Course tries to follow the Australian school calendar year, subject to students' visas, from February to December.

Each week there are 20 hours of lectures and a minimum of 20 hours of assignments. The course material covers: grammar, vocabulary, conversation, pronunciation, comprehension, and Bible English. We are in the process of setting up a language laboratory.

Students are encouraged to make social and church contacts with "native" English speakers. If they have the opportunity for secular employment (Visa permitting) in the closing weeks of their course, this is encouraged as it makes them use the English language in a normal conversational environment.

Applicants are strongly advised to take out some form of health insurance whilst with us. Your health needs are your own responsibility.

Lost keys can be replaced at a cost of $5.00. No student is to use the office equipment. Please ask one of the staff to help you.

Ordinary courtesies are expected to be observed and consideration for other people's culture and customs is of high importance.
